About this website Sobre este sitio
This website started as a way to share the my pos-doctoral research with the public. To share sources, to share results, to share the development of my research.
Its name - Building the Portuguese Empire in the 19th century - comes from a first research project and was maintained because it reflects the long term aim of my research.
This website seeks to show some of the results of on-going research and will be in constantly updated, even if sometimes slower than its author and its users would like.
The portuguese and english versions sometimes will not be put online at the exact same time.
Titled Building the Portuguese Empire in the 19th century, Public Works across the Indian Ocean and China Sea (1869-1926), was a postdoctoral project that run from 2012-2017. From there a small biographical dictionary, that included all technical staff of the public works departments of the territories included in the study - Estado da India, Macau, Timor and Mozambique - was started. The content of that dictionary will migrate to a platform developed by a group project TechNetEMPIRE - Technoscientific Networks in the construction of the built environment in the Portuguese Empire (1647-1871) to be presented to the public in due time.
Other parts of this website will be continued to be developed and enlarged in the context of my individual research project
Circa 1892: Public Works Departments and the everyday building of the Portuguese empire
So, many changes and updates will be happening with time and i thank you for you patience to keep coming and to keep following this website.
