José Frederico D'Assa Castel-Branco

Formou-se em 1850 na Escola Mathemática e Militar de Goa e foi promovido ao Corpo de Engenheiros do Estado da Índia em 1860.
Em 1879 assumiu o cargo de Sub-Director das Obras Públicas da Índia a convite de Caetano Albuquerque, tendo passado a Director do serviço a 21 de Fevereiro de 1888. Durante os muitos anos que serviu nas Obras Publicas foi autor de diversos edifícios publicos de Pangim, entre os quais se contam o edifícios das Obras Públicas, dos Correios, o Palácio do Arcebispo e o edifício do Observatório Metereológico. No ano de 1884 foi encarregue de todos os trabalhos relacionados com as paroquias.
Em 1901, reformou-se como General e, em 1905, deixou o serviço das Obras Públicas. Foi também professor na Escola de Mathemática e Militar, na Escola Profissional e no Liceu de Goa (1887-1906).

Graduated in 1850 at the Military and Mathematics School of Goa (Escola Mathemática e Militar) and was promoted to Corps of Engineers of Portuguese India in 1860.
In 1879, he was appointed to the post of Vice-Director of Public Works at the invitation of Caetano Albuquerque, becoming Director on 21 February 1888. During the many years he served on the Public Works he was the author of several public buildings of Panjim, among then: the buildings of Public Works, the Post-Office, the Archbishop's Palace and the building of the Meteorological Observatory. In 1884 was in charge of all work related to the parishes in Goa.
In 1901, he retired as General and in 1905 left the service of Public Works. He was also a professor at the Military and Mathematics School, at the Professional School (Instituto Profissional de Nova Goa) and at the Lyceum of Goa (1887-1906).
